A Fall Refresh with Georgestown On My Mind

The summer season is slowly trickling away and fall is about to show its colours. It’s the perfect time to do a little deep clean to prep for those cosy evenings at home when the temperature drops, the candles are lit & the fireplace beckons.

I love using Yorabode’s scent sprays & essential oils to refresh my home when cleaning. I’m usually partial to Boreal for Fall but the latest scent Ground, is the perfect scent for saying goodbye to summer and ushering in fall. With notes of grapefruit and earthy, woodsy tones, it smells like September.

I love using my scent sprays to spritz my rugs - in particular the porch rug & the kitchen rug. With our weather, the porch rug seems to collect more odours than any other rug in our home and, as Newfoundlanders, we know that the kitchen is the true heart of the home. It better smell good even when dinner's not cooking!

I love to give my couch pillows and my fabric couch a little spray too. Our puppy dog, Eugene, loves to snuggle and, sometimes, he leaves behind a funky little smell. The scent sprays are excellent for refreshing fabrics. Please note: always be cautious and spray a small, inconspicuous piece of fabric first to test how the scent spray will effect your fabrics.

Speaking of pets, provided your pet doesn’t have any allergies, I like to use the scent spray on our sweet pup Eugene's fluffy bed in between washings to keep it smelling fresh & clean.

When swapping out my sheets I like to spritz my mattress and sheets with a little scent spray. It’s also the perfect move when you have guests coming to stay. Give your bedding a quick spritz the morning of their arrival for a welcome they won't soon forget. Smell is always a memory maker!

After a good, sweaty, workout, I love to spray my yoga mat to disinfect it & keep it smelling fresh. A few little sprays in the air doesn’t hurt either in this case.

Did you have any trouble with ants this summer?! We were inundated with them. I discovered that ants despise mint. I sprayed my doorway with Boreal this summer which contains mint and it kept the ants away for ages. Repeat as necessary. It was the perfect natural deterrent.

I was lucky enough to try out the new Ground essential oil as well. Essential oils are new to me. I’m learning that there are so many awesome uses aside from diffusing them in your home for a beautiful fragrant abode.

I added a few drops to my dryer balls before tossing them in the dryer with a fresh load of laundry. My towels came out smelling delightful.

I sprinkled a few drops of essential oil on my Dyson filter to infuse my vacuuming with a sweet little scent. Note: Proceed with caution. I’ve never had an issue and spoke with friends who haven’t either but if you’re nervous about it, doubt means don’t.

Let’s circle back to the porch. Stinky shoes are the worst. I learned that putting a few drops of essential oil on a cotton ball and popping the cotton ball in the toes of your shoes, helps eliminates odours and prevents your porch from smelling like feet which nobody will complain about.

In a similar fashion, you can add a few drops to a wooden clothespin and clip it to your fan in your car to give your car a sweet smelling interior.

I hope I’ve given you a few fun ways to step up your cleaning routine around your home. There’s nothing better than a fresh, clean space that smells incredible. Happy cleaning friends!
